Over forty  years ago, I learned the art of Macrame’ and making accessories from leather as a student. One of my first solo projects outside the classroom was a Macrame’ handbag that I made for my mother. My mother being an extremely talented seamstress herself created a lining with pockets and stitched it inside the bag I had given her. She proudly carried it to work and received many compliments from her colleagues who also urged her to encourage me to make more bags as they would purchase. Unknowingly, this was my introduction into the world of entrepreneurship.

However, long before the Macrame’ experience, I recall watching my mother create garments from all types of textiles including leather. I literally grew up watching my mother design and sew the majority of her business and casual attire as well as handcraft garments for others. Her work was impeccable! My mother’s work of art was my front row seat to learning the art of sewing. I was never an active participant, I learned by watching her and how she had the instinctive ability of making her items unique. That same spirit of being unique and giving life to leather and fabric is the guiding force behind the way I envision and create pieces.

Why the Clutch you ask? I was involved in an automobile accident that caused serious damage to my shoulder. Before and after having surgery from injuries sustained, I found it increasingly difficult to carry shoulder bags as they were heavy and agitated the injury. I found the clutch bags I had made in the past worked better as I recovered. Today you will still find that the majority of All Things Corlis merchandise are clutches, however the look now spans to include wristlets, shoulder bags and some home interior accessories.

The talent of designing and crafting merchandise that’s functional and pleasing to the eye is truly a gift from God. It is my sincere hope that you enjoy my passion that I graciously share …… from my hands to yours.
